When you are in a crowd, you have to be careful. If you are too animated, people may think ill of you, or worse, they may become afraid. People who are afraid can become dangerous. Therefore, avoid any unnecessary movements, don’t make eye contact, and stay quiet.

I just keep looking down.

They say that people who live in big cities have learned to be alone in a crowd. I can’t do that, but I can feel crowded when I am alone.

People in Taiwan enjoy being in a crowd. They like to go to the night market on a Saturday night when it is the most busy and there is barely room to get down the street. They slowly walk through the market—not caring about getting anyplace. No matter how careful you are, you will bump into other people and other people will bump into you.

There is safety in numbers. You are just another anonymous face in the crowd.

I like Taipei because it is big. There is always something interesting going on somewhere. Thank you for reading.
