The YouBike program in Taipei is beneficial in many ways. It is good for the environment, it promotes better health, and it helps alleviate traffic congestion. Every day more people are riding YouBikes around. Taipei will have a healthier population and less pollution because of it.
Is that a YouBike? It’s not a my bike.
You can find YouBike stations at almost every exit of the MRT system. Rent a bicycle at one station to travel for short distances and then return, or you can leave it at another YouBike station. It is good to see so many people using them and getting healthy and environmental.
Checking out a bicycle is simple because you can use your Easy card. You can register over the Internet, but that is easy. On the web there is helpful information even in English. You can also check in at the kiosk where the bikes are.
There are applications for your Smartphone that will tell you where to find a YouBike station and it will tell you how many bikes are available at any location.
Riding a bike a few times a week can be part of a good exercise routine. I try to find YouBike stations that are on top of hills and ride down to a valley somewhere and leave the bike at a station down there. Maybe if I practice and get stronger, I will be able to go up hill too.
The YouBike program is expanding into New Taipei City. Perhaps soon you will see YouBikes everywhere in Taiwan. Taiwan did a good thing here. Keep safe and see you next time.
