*Richard has great respect for the Taiwan taxi driver. He really does.

If you ever need a taxi in Taipei, then you are in luck. Cabs are cheap and plentiful. Most of the time, all you have to do is wait by the side of the road and flag one down. The drivers are almost always very polite and nice to their customers. They are also nice to those of us who don’t speak Chinese. We always have fun talking about this and that and where and why. They are good people.

On the other hand, to the other drivers on the road, taxi drivers are rude and dangerous. They will endanger anyone on a scooter or in a car. It is as if human life means nothing to them.

Someday a real rain will come...

I try to understand and be tolerant. They are just trying to earn a living. They have to drive all day. Taiwan traffic will turn anybody crazy after a short on the street. It would be almost impossible not to turn into some insufferable and selfish jerk.

Some day, and I think it will be soon, all cars will drive themselves and we humans won’t have to go crazy in traffic anymore. It just may lead to an end to war and poverty in this world. I long for that day to come and hope that it happens in my lifetime as it will make my life much easier. I won’t have to deal with these road rage issues anymore, and taxi drivers will once again be welcome in my exuberant bosom of love.

Thank you for reading. Yes. I’m talking to you. You’re the only one here, so I must be talking to you.
