Every time you surf the Web, somebody is watching. They pay attention to what you click on, and they want to know why. Statistics are kept at a rate that is two times the standard deviation for this sort of thing.

The one thing that they have found is that articles that have numbers in the title get clicked on more than other articles. That is why, when you look at popular websites that have articles for you to choose from, at least three out of ten will have numbers in the title (and I made that number up).

Numbers in the Title: A Marketing Secret.

For example, take a look at any online newspaper from America. You will likely see many headlines with numbers in the title, for example, “Gunman Shoots Four in Theater”, “Four Killed in Downtown Gun Battle”, “Two Masked Gunman Kill 20 in Popular Mall”.

On general webpages, those that are there to try to draw traffic, there will be a lot of articles that have titles like, “7 Reasons to Get Fit”, “10 Things Dumb People Say”, or “8 Ways to Skin a Cat”.

Good Internet promotion involves keeping track of current trends and studies and suchlike. Knowing better ways to draw traffic to your page will pay off in clicks and views. That is what it is all about in the real world. Seven out of ten dentists agree. We can only be thankful that there are so many market researchers doing the hard mathematic work for us, because that stuff is hard work and confusing.

So when you are surfing the internet, don’t just click something because it has numbers in it. Be smarter than that. 7 out of 10 people already know that. See you next time.
