[Living in Taiwan for almost 20 years now, Richard still likes a good exhibition.]

Once I went to see a mammoth, the Pleistocene mammoth. It was huge. It looked like an elephant, but it was much bigger and hairier. It was once numerous and widespread in the cold regions of the Northern Hemisphere-both in Asia and in North America. The hair was red, and sometimes it was known as the woolly mammoth. It was dead. The last mammoth died many thousands of years ago, but they are sometimes found frozen in ice and well preserved, like the baby one that I saw at the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall.

You never know what wonders you will find inside.

At the base of the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall there is an exhibition hall. I saw the visiting exhibit of the baby mammoth, frozen in ancient ice. The baby has much to teach us about what life was like so long ago, and as I left the exhibition, I could also have gone to see Astro Boy on display, which is a different kind of baby altogether. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens and ponds—quiet and serene.

Exhibitions will change. They come and go, but there is always something interesting at the Memorial Hall, and there is a permanent collection of memorabilia from the life of the famous leader. They have a couple of his old cars as well as pictures, uniforms, documents, and many other interesting things. It is full of rich, historical knowledge.

The Memorial Hall, in the middle of the large, walled-in park is a memorial to the former leader of Taiwan. The daily changing of the guard is a crowd favorite, solemn, and impressive. You must always be respectful.

Remember to always be polite and say “yes mammoth” and “no mammoth”. Thank you for reading.
