　先日、台湾南部の「屏東」と「高雄」へ遊びにいってきました。
　往路は、台北駅深夜1:05発の統聯客運（台湾最大の旅客バス会社）のバスに乗って屏東へ。

Taiwan is in the Far East. We call it the Far East because it is far far to the east, but not too far. If it was too far to the east, then it would be in danger of becoming the Near West. The Far East is so far away that the culture, language, and religions are mostly different from those in the USA.
I have been in Taiwan long enough to start seeing my hometown as a foreign land. My old Tulsa neighborhood is basically the same as when I was there, but there are enough little differences that it has become oddly strange, and strangely odd. I’m used to Taiwan, which is my home now.

「臺灣製造 • 製造臺灣」將透過北美館重要典藏品，梳理1945年之前所呈現的臺灣藝術發展面向。日據時代（1895-1945）生活在台灣的藝術家們，開始追尋與傳統習俗切割的新觀念、新規範和新價值，並逐步在社會上獲得肯定。然而他們對鄉土、國家的認同是如何？如何對應變異的世界環境？對於時代或宇宙新知又有何感知？此一典藏展，將引領觀者思考自身與歷史的關係，營造出「對話錄」的空間，使歷史事實與其詮釋的能相互對照。
展出重要典藏品包含日治時期石川欽一郎、鄉原古統等來台日籍教師作品、臺灣重要雕塑家黃土水作品，最具代表性的東洋畫畫家陳進、林玉山、郭雪湖、呂鐵州及活躍的西洋畫家如倪蔣懷、陳澄波、廖繼春、劉啟祥、洪瑞麟、何德來等人的畫作，囊括工藝、雕塑、織品、書法、水墨、膠彩、水彩、油畫、素描、攝影等多元藝術材質的典藏作品，提供觀眾更豐富且立體的文化想像。

Honking the car or scooter horn is a primitive form of communication, like dogs barking. It expresses anger. “Hurry and move!”, it says. Geese also honk, with little hope of communicating anything complicated. If a goose wants to say that he feels a little down in the dumps and has a vague sense of foreboding, then what can he do? All he can do is honk.
The car horn is more important in Taiwan than in the USA. In America, the honk usually means, “Wake up! The light’s changed! Move your stupid car!” In Taiwan, honking has more meanings. Its main meaning is, “Wake up! The light is about to change! You should be moving already!” But there are other meanings.
